If you’re a web designer, your head is most probably flowing with new ideas and concepts all of the time. And the only thing you can do whenever you’re not near your computer is find a piece of paper and write down your ideas, or simply remember them.

But if you own an iPhone (like everyone else , things change cardinally: you now have access to tons of useful applications created specifically for web designers and developers. Using them will make it much easier to remember all of your fantastic ideas, test your theories, learn or remind yourself of something, or do other things that fall in your line of work.

Source Viewer.This is a very simple application that lets you view the source of any website. The only bad thing is that it doesn’t have an integrated browser to view the full version of the site (and switch between the complete view and the source).

Palettes Pro.Palettes allows you to extract colors from any image, photograph or web site and create a palette based on them. You can then export and import the palettes, back them up on a remote storage service, send them via email and do other useful things.

colorSutra.If you’re having a hard time deciding which colors would go well with the current ones in your project, you can make your life easier by letting your iPhone decide for you. Using colorSutra, you can pick any color you like from a picture or web site and let the app suggest appropriate colors that will match it.

Color Expert.Color Expert is a simple colors database tool that lets you search through various standard color palettes, like Pantone, web safe colors, HTML colors and many more. Once you found the ones you need, you can email them, save them, pick and create custom colors and do much more.

ColorPicker.This is a very simple color picking tool, which works by using 3 sliders for Red, Green and Blue and creating the color you need.

Database Viewer.This amazing application allows you to work with various database systems, including SQL Server, Oracle, FilePro, MS Access, MySQL and others. You can view and edit all of the entries in the database, and keep both the remote database and the copy on your iPhone synced, which is very useful if you’re constantly updating it while on the move.

MobileCan.MobileCan is a full client designed to work with PostgreSQL databases. You can use it to view, edit, delete and otherwise modify any existing remote database (or even create one by using the appropriate CLI commands).

iMy.This app provides a very quick way of sending the most common queries to any database. You just search and select the query you need and send it to the server. No need to type it manually.

WhatTheFont.This is an extremely useful application for any web designer and font master. It allows you to take a picture using your iPhone’s camera of any font anywhere you are and see its exact name. The app uses the MyFonts database to do that, and most of the times you will get the result you wanted or at least a very similar one.

FontShuffle.FontShuffle is a portable database of various fonts. You can use this application to search for the fonts you might want for your current or future projects.

FTP on the Go.Every web designer or developer needs an FTP client, and with this app, you can now have it wherever you go on your iPhone. The client allows you to download and upload files, edit files using an integrated text editor and view the changes on your site using an integrated web browser.

Ego.Ego is an all-in-one analytics and status monitoring for your iPhone. You can set it up to download and view your web analytics statistics, Twitter, Facebook and RSS subscribers/fans count, and other useful things.

Analytics App.This is currently the best Google Analytics client for the iPhone. You can view over 40 reports about your sites, PPC campaigns, AdSense and other things that you set up in your online Google Analytics account.

Web Tools.A very nifty all in one tool for developers, Web Tools lets you lookup domains, check their whois information if they’re registered, ping sites and IP’s to see if they’re active and much more. Definitely a must have on your iPhone.

Network Utility Pro.This tool is very similar to the one above, except instead of having the ability to lookup domains, it has another useful feature, albeit more specialized: a port scanner. Because of it, this tool may be very useful for system administrators and network security specialists. The rest of the features are the same (pinging, whois queries, etc.).

There are literally hundreds of other great iPhone applications for web developers and designers, just do a search on the marketplace or on Google. Try the above apps out and I’m sure you’ll be pleasantly surprised by how much more things you will be able to do.
